Week 31: What's happening

Not sure about anyone else, but partway through summer holidays I'm not sure I know what day it is, what happened yesterday or the day before or what happens next. But, all is well on the veg front, and we're VERY proud of these onions! Apparently Charles Dowding (the no dig king) lays them out like this so we figured why not! These will be going into the boxes next week.
We're waiting - impatiently - for the tomatoes to ripen, we've managed to harvest the first few, just waiting for them all to really turn. We've harvested 20kg kale, 6kg beetroot, 1kg green beans, 1 kg peas. A lot of the kale has bolted so we're starting again with that - seedlings on the go. We dug up the onions and laid them out to dry. We've harvested garlic and currently drying that too. Rosie has done a lot of weeding. Also, dare we say it, we're just starting to plan for the winter crops....! Woweee.
Eat your Greens veg boxes:
Not too much to say on the boxes this week, think they speak for themselves - full of beautfiful UK veg! Fennel, aubergine, beetroot, courgettes, lettuce, tomatoes, kale in the regular boxes. Leeks, cherry tomatoes, snack cucumbers, lovely savoy cabbages and either beans/beetroot/courgette in the small.
The Vale Grocer shop:
Not quite sure of quantities but we should have at least some of the following:
Carrots, onions (white and red), fennel, courgettes, potatoes, tomatoes and cherry tomatoes (both vine), aubergines, beetroot, leeks, palermo red peppers, peas, kale, cucumbers, lemons, garlic, ginger
+ quails eggs & chicken eggs
+ Bryn Cochyn apple juice (we've just got some more in)
+ sourdough from Nant y Felin (large & small loaves)
We're still working on the on-line ordering we mentioned last week. If there's anything specific you want, then send me an email and I can try to put it aside (first come first served) but I do need to know today as don't always check emails once am in the shop on Friday.
Recipe Inspiration:
There's another good Riverford video here which gives simple tricks to improve your cooking - and lots of links to other info, including their Veg Hacks videos which I think are really helpful.
I haven't yet got myself a copy of the Anna Jones cook book, 'One: Pot, Pan, Planet', but it has been recommended to me more than once and is on the 'to buy' list. Here's a podcast with her (you don't have to sign up to any platforms - just hit play) which I've not had a chance to listen to yet but where she apparently shares 'some practical advice on how even a small change in planning, shopping and reducing waste can make a big difference.' This is something Chris and I have been talking about recently, as we believe these things are all really closely tied together, so am looking forward to hearing what she has to say. Talking of shopping and reducing waste, if you haven't yet visited Y Ty Gwrydd in Denbigh, then you're missing out!
have a good week
