Week 16: What's happening
Well April seems to be jogging along nicely and this sunshine is lovely - kind of sums up the general mood as the Covid restrictions start to relax a little - but we actually could do with some rain. Just a bit, maybe over a few nights with lovely sunshine in between. Not too much to ask, surely?!

Chris has written an update on all that's been going on in the field - have a read here, we're feeling quite proud and no wonder Chris is having a cheeky lie down in the new den he's built for Charlotte in the garden. Denbigh plum tree in full blossom.
Eat Your Greens veg boxes:
The beans in the regular boxes are flat Helda beans, from Spain. Also spring greens in the regular boxes. Not sure there's anything else that needs much explanation but feel free to shoot through questions if you have any. We've got another egg surplus so let us know if you fancy eggs over the next few weeks.
If anyone would like fresh garlic or ginger or lemons (or all of those) added to their box on a regular basis then please let us know and we can try to work something out. We're also exploring whether we could do a fruit box to add on to the regular box - so let us know if that sounds interesting.
The Vale Grocer shop (open Friday mornings):
We're getting lots of great feedback on the veg on a Friday. The Prion greens sold very well last week which made it worth us getting out to do some harvesting before we opened. More lovely fresh produce ahead so keep coming in to check out what we're growing. Prices change quite dramatically each week at the moment too.
This week we have -
Plenty of: potatoes, carrots, onions, flat Helda beans, tomatoes (lots of these - great for cooking), garlic, ginger, mushrooms, leeks, green palermo peppers, cucumbers, courgettes, a range of different greens from Prion (picked in the morning before we open!)
Limited: baking potatoes, avocadoes, red onions, spring greens, pointed cabbage
Fruit: oranges, lemons, apples, bananas
Recipes:
Haven't tried this yet but looks like an interesting way to use the Helda beans - recipe here. Always love a risotto, how about trying it with spring greens? - recipe here.
What's in season April/May in the UK?
Purple sprouting broccoli | new potatoes | rhubarb | asparagus | radishes | spring onions | lettuce | salad leaves | spring greens | wild garlic | watercress | spinach | rocket
have a good week
