Sustainability...what does it mean for us and what are we doing about it?

Updated: Mar 22, 2022

We attended a webinar last week on sustainability. It was interesting, and we felt quite reassured we were quite ahead of the game in terms of thinking about a lot of the issues raised. But there's just no room for complacency here, so we'll be constantly reviewing and trying to improve.

Interestingly, the consultant running the webinar alluded to making changes in order to sell more which is just not what it's about for us. We have been on a personal journey for years to reduce one-use packaging, cut energy consumption where possible (hard when living in Australia and doing regular long-haul flights admittedly) and to make changes at home that lead to new habits and shifts in behaviour, e.g. having a smaller bin in the kitchen to remind us how quickly we're filling it up/limit our waste, and having a large compost bin on the side to remind us to compost veg scraps.

One of the benefits of running our own business is that we can have control over the way we do things in the business as well as at home. We've written down some of the things here that we're doing in our quest to tread more lightly on the earth and it's resources, let us know what you think.

As an aside, we don't much like the word 'sustainability' - it's a bit of a mouthful and not sure what it really means any more. Our focus is on low impact living - hence treading lightly....
