Snowy, icy deliveries - 4WD much needed!

Our van may be tiny but it is mighty (and 4WD)! - don't know what we'd do without it in when the roads are as they are at the moment. Chris managed to get up and down some really tricky lanes yesterday. We're so reliant on being able to get our boxes delivered to every customer - we're not like a courier company who can just say 'sorry we weren't able to deliver', as if we can't get somewhere it's likely that that customer won't be able to get to us to pick up and therefore their box is essentially wasted. So it's three cheers for the little 4WD mini van.

In the field:

Chris and Rosie did a sterling job on Monday harvesting a lot of veg in the freezing temps (Rosie still smiling!) - 1.5kg salad, 8kg leeks, 2.5kg chard, 2kg kale, 13kg parsnips (a bit less freaky looking than last lot), 1.5kg spinach, 13kg swede. We're super happy to have harvested the salad, chard and spinach as we can't buy any of that from the wholesalers at the moment :)

In the boxes:

Small: Potatoes, carrots, onions, beetroot, swede, clementines, sprout tops, celeriac

Regular: Potatoes, carrots, onions, Savoy cabbage, leeks, blood oranges, cauliflower, parsnips, spinach / chard / salad (from Prion - sorry, we didn't have enough of any one thing to go in all boxes but it's all fresh, local, green and tasty).

In the shop:

Potatoes*, onions, sweet potaotes, beetroot, celeriac, sprouts, leeks, cauliflowers (limited), uchi kuri squash, carrots, parsnips, Savoy cabbages, chestnut mushrooms, swede, salad and kale (from Prion), garlic / ginger / turmeric

Fruit: Kumquats, blood oranges, Seville oranges, bananas

*still Caras from Bryn Cochyn, getting so much lovely feedback on these, they are amazing as jacket potatoes

+ eggs, Pentrefelin milk, Nant y Felin sourdough and other organic store-cupboard items also available online here.

In the kitchen:

Haven't tried it yet but got sent this recipe for a one pot spicy potato stew which looks fab - Chris loves his spuds so this is right up his street.

Finally, here's a very short article from Riverford with scientist Dave Goulson.

have a lovely week

#enjoy that tasty veg
